Keeping Your Wedding Makeup Classic

Makeup trends come and go but your wedding photos should last a lifetime. When deciding on your makeup and makeup artist for your wedding I always encourage you to look for a classic style that’ll stand the test of time. The last thing you want is to look back at your phots 10 / 20 / 30 years from now and see you face in them and think “What did I do?”.

Let’s not forget the crazy medusa style hair. I was totally on trend for 2004 but today this is just cringe.

When I was in college it was the early 2000s. The look was light blue shimmer eyeshadow from lash line to none existent eyebrows. The brows that kind of remained dropped down like a sad comma above our eyes. Lips were often a dark liner unblended with nude center. Y’all it was look. Add a crazy hairstyle and I refer to it as the “Alien Pop Star” look. We totally thought we were rocking it. I’m sure if I had gotten married I would have done this type look because it was so cool. But as I look back at those pictures from college I cringe.

Bridal makeup that I did in 2011 that stands the test of time because it’s a classic look avoiding any trends of the moment. This look could have been created last week or 20 years ago. Photo by Verve Studios.

Recently we have seen lots of trends come and go. From the oversized ombre eyebrows that looked like caterpillars to highlighter in all sorts of places it shouldn’t be to overly contoured faces caked with product. I often have clients ask about these things and I explain that one these trends may not work in photos the way you think they do and that you want to look back years from now loving the way you looked in your wedding photos. Most likely that trend will be something of the past that makes you cringe.
